|Khani Doward, a Kindergarten student at the Chester Upland School of the Arts, is a winner!
Chosen as one of thirty-three students in grades K-12 for the Fresh Artists "Fresh Flowers Project" Contest, Khani's artwork (inspired by a Matisse painting) was selected from over 340 entries! Her work was submittedby her art teacher Roslyn Jones.
It will appear on the first Fresh Artists Mobile Museum of Mini-Masterpieces - Fresh Flowers exhibition sponsored by SEPTA and The Philadelphia Flower Show. Please join us in celebrating one of CUSA's finest!
|Chester Upland School of the Arts (CUSA) serves students in grades PreK - 5.
With offerings in Creative Expression, including Visual Arts, Music, and Drama, CUSA is an elementary program with a focus on the creative and performing arts. CUSA has a dedicated principal with roots in the community, and the student accomplishments at the school have been featured in the Chester Spirit and on WPVI Action News.
|Beyond its focus on the arts, CUSA's students have achieved test scores which exceed those of rival charter schools, and prepare students for academic success in higher grades.
The general curriculum at CUSA is supported by the following textbooks: Hartcourt Brace, Story Time Reading, Everyday Mathematics, and Scott Foresman Science, Social Studies and Music programs. In addition, students receive extra help using Reading Recovery (grade 1) and computer assisted programs such as Achieve 3000 (reading), First in Math and Apangea (math). Extracurricular programs include: “Sing to Learn” (K-2), integration of the arts after school program for music, dance, visual art, technology (2-4), and Freedom School (summer).

Solid color sweaters or sweatshirts (navy, white or black).
No hoodies are permitted to be worn during the day.
Pants/Skirts: Navy blue or tan khaki pants.
No jeans or leggings are permitted.
Belts are required for pants (pants should not sag or reveal undergarments).
For girls, khaki, navy blue or black skirts or skorts are permitted (no denim skirts or skorts). Length should not be more than 1 inch above the knee
Shoes: Sneakers or dress shoes / dressy flats.
No: flip-flops, sandals, high-heel shoes, slides, shoes with wheels or lights.
